The Children and the tall and hairy troll

The children inquired of their father about their destination for the day. He paused, then turned to gaze out the window where the sun was emerging from behind the hill.

"Today, we are embarking on an expedition to visit the man residing in the cave," he replied. The children exchanged surprised glances, as they had never heard of someone living in such a place. As they navigated across a fallen log, a couple of the children slipped and tumbled into the river. Fortunately, they were skilled swimmers and reached the riverbank safely. These youngsters relished swimming and hiking, so they were delighted. The 5 km trek proved to be effortless, and they stumbled upon an abundance of fruits and seeds to munch on during their journey. Each day, they indulged in trail mix treats. These children had perfected the skill of foraging for forest edibles, rendering stores and backpacks unnecessary for carrying lunch, as the forest served as their pantry.

The ascent up the hill proved to be effortless due to the absence of mountains in the Amazon.

Upon reaching the entrance of the rocky cavern, the children's excitement to explore the rocks was expected, but their father instructed them to wait. He called out to the man inside the cave, causing a commotion followed by a loud roar. Startled, the children took a step back. "Is there a lion in there?" they inquired. "No, there are no lions in the Amazon!" the father reassured them. Subsequently, a cheerful man emerged from the darkness into the sunlight. His beard was longer than that of Sant Nicolo's, and his back was covered in hair. The children burst into laughter, exclaiming, "It's a giant troll!" Their father joined in the laughter. The giant troll lit his tobacco pipe and guided them into the cave, where they found large baskets brimming with delicious nuts. The children eagerly grabbed handfuls and began to munch on them. The father explained that these were wild brazil nuts collected by the troll, and it was his responsibility to sell them at the local market since the townspeople were fearful of the troll. The children chuckled at the townspeople's fear, declaring, "How foolish they are, the troll is delightful and resides in a cave on the hill." "Indeed, he is quite remarkable," agreed the father.
